PRODUCT REVIEW: AKIN DRIVING SHOES

The modern shoe is the product of years of evolution ever since early humans wrapped animal hides around their feet to protect them. Since the middle of the 20th century when shoe companies such as Nike and Adidas began their rise to fame, modern footwear has become the culmination of style, function, and comfort. Most of us own a few different types of footwear: tennis shoes, casual shoes, dress shoes, and boots (for those of us in the country/snowy states). Each shoe that you own has a specific function for it and its design focuses on either style, function, or comfort. The diagram below seems to summarize this point fairly well.

Editorial: The Power of Friendship, A Eulogy to Eric Devo Hanson

Earlier this week I had the unfortunate experience of laying a close friend to rest way earlier than I would have ever hoped to have done. His name was Eric Hanson, or as his friends would call him Devo. I try to stay positive and see the bright side but through this experience I was, for lack of a better word, shook. I've lost friends before and it's always hard but this one in particular got to me more than others. Devo was the light of everyone's lives that he touched and nobody hated him, his prime motive was to see you smile. That light I felt was out of my life forever.

But today at his funeral I found that light was still lit.

TECH: Steps for Winter Prepping

Yeah, it's happening, winter is upon us (queue collective groan). While it's not the end of life for car people, the majority of us hideaway in our homes until the DOT is through with salting the earth. We all have our own rituals we do when putting our toys away. Some people do the basic fuel stabilizer and a battery tender. Others do the full gambit of moth balls under the hood, dryer sheets in the interior, battery tender, fuel stabilizer, burning a smudge stick to ward off evil spirits, putting the car on jack stands, climate control in the garage, etc. So what's something that's totally required and what's pure hogwash?

EVENT: Paul Walker Cruise and Car Show 2017

This year was the 5th iteration of one of the most prominent events in the Minnesota car community, and we decided to return to where it all began, The Automotorplex. The owners had us back to host one of the best yet, except this time they opened their garages to us and even came along for the cruise. With 613 vehicles in the cruise and many more filling the spectator lots, it was a great day to cruise and an even better day to get some dope photos.

EVENT: Rockfalls Raceway Sport Compact Day Presented by KaTeng and Drive Cartel

For everyone here who has ever been into drag racing here in Minnesota, the name Rockfalls brings with it both fond memories and infamy. Being the closest 1/4 mile drag strip to the Twin Cities, for years, many of us have our first memories of taking our cars out to the strip here. After a while, the number of track worthy street cars willing to make the 90 minute trek into Wisconsin began to shrink precipitously and threats to discontinue hosting Sport Compact Day at the track were made. All of that is in the past however and it is all thanks to grassroots car enthusiasts.

Tech: Tips for Better Photos

All of us here love our cars and we love to show them off through any outlet we can find, usually that outlet is via pictures of our cars on social media. When browsing through pictures of cars on our favorite social media pages we usually see one or two shots that stand out and may earn downloading or turning that "like" into a "love" reaction.  This whole article is about turning average photos into something you'd want to show to your mother.

SPOTLIGHT: What's the deal with... The Citroën 2CV?

It was a perfect example of a Citroën 2CV (Deux Chevaux), the most iconic French car of all time. Soon more people were paying attention to the 2CV than the Aventador behind it, and what can be only described as a small mob lead mostly by women and small children descended upon the tin snail. It's no spoiler to say that it's design is rather crude and that the car isn't exactly fast with the best of them putting down a whopping 29 HP. So, we have to ask, why do people get so excited over this? What's the deal with the Citroën 2CV?

EVENT: Mitsubishi Cookout 2017

Once again the annual pilgrimage of upper midwest Mitsubishi owners has been completed. Coming from states far and wide to descend upon Central Park in Ramsey, MN, this was the event of the year for anyone who is a fan of the 100 year old Japanese industrial juggernaut. Mitsubishi may be in dire straits now but lets look at this showcase of their history to remind us exactly why we love this brand.
